Forced Hiatus

The Laptop is dying.

Currently getting IT people to give it CPR, but doesn't look good.

Almost all my files/music/four years worth of procrastination have been wiped.

So I won't be posting/responding alot for the next few weeks till i get a replacement laptop.

Aw little virus riddled Inspiron 1300 has been good to me.

R.I.P

P.S. if any one has any advice about what type of laptop i should get please give me some - i don't have a clue

That sucks! Well I have a Fujitsu and I really like it. It was expensive though.

Otherwise Macs are supposed to be good.

Remember people! Back up for files! My old Compaq served me well for five/six years but I have a Packard Bell now and that seems good.

Ack! A dying laptop is not good. :( I bought a Mac about three years ago and--it having hit grumpy middle-age aside ;)--we're still going strong. Also definitely invest in an external hard-drive. You can get pocket-sized ones with a huge amount of space that aren't very expensive, and they're a godsend.

I hope you're back soon!

Emily--Sorry! Bummer about your laptop. I hope you didn't lose too much of your stuff.

I went laptop shopping back in September and ended up, after a lot of research, purchasing an Asus machine (Asus, not Acer). That company started life as a manufacturer for other computer firms like Apple and HP, and have recently come into their own.

Prior to that I'd never heard of Asus, but apparently they have a great reputation within the industry. Alot of the customer feedback I reviewed suggested that Asus machines are cheaper and more reliable than their competitors--and I certainly have been nothing but impressed with the one I've brought back to Baghdad. Sturdy, simple design and construction, well-put together software package. Might be worth looking into.

Anyway, cheers! and good luck finding a new one.

I'm not much help with picking out laptops, as I have no use for one I don't have one but I've always fancied a MAC, that's just me. But here is where I can be helpful there is an online file back up system that works wonders!! it's called Carbonite.

Oh I'm so sorry. I hate that kind of stuff. You poor thing. I lost a harddrive last year and it made me want to bang my head against things. I'm so sorry. Your comment on my excerpt was just so awesome. Thank you so much. Hugs.

RIP, Laptop!

I have a Compaq, and it works really well for me. Sometimes it's a little slow, though. I've never used a Mac, but a lot of people think they rock, so that might be worth checking out. Whatever you get, hope it's a good one!

By the way, you've got a blog award: http://astheplotthickens.blogspot.com/2010/02/okay-so-i-make-stuff-up.html

Lady Glamis said...

Emily, yes, Windows can work on a Mac, but there's certain things you have to do. If you want more info, let me know.
