Killing us softly. . .

Jean Kilbourne's Killing Us Softly 4.

A must see for everyone, especially young women. A real eye opener.

Important to bear in mind that Jean Kilbourne's focus is on women. She mentions men briefly (more about how feminine virtues are not viewed positively in men and how media portrays violence to men as being manly) but obviously there are issues (even more so now) concerning male body images too but this isn't the focus of this video or Jean Kilbourne's studies.

I will try and see if I can get a video about men and advertising/media too or article.

And can I just add that when I was uploading these videos here - I had to say I was over 18 for the third video - because the video (due to the 'porn' photoshoot image she shows) was flagged, but its ok to be in a fashion magazine?!?

Wow. I watched the first one and immediately had to go add some stuff to my own blogpost today. Two years? We spend 2 years of our lives watching commercials! Luckily, I think that's just older people. Younger people don't watch as much TV, thank goodness. But it's still scary. Especially when it's preserving dangerous stereotyping.
